What is Wamuyu ?
Fashion is more than what we wear—it is a story, a reflection of who we are, and a thread that connects us to our history. This blog is dedicated to exploring the beauty, richness, and creativity of Kenyan fashion. From timeless traditions and cultural heritage to modern street styles and bold personal expressions, I aim to celebrate it all.
Here, you’ll discover the history and meaning behind Kenya’s diverse fashion traditions, learn about the artistry of fabrics, patterns, and accessories, and meet the people who are redefining style today. Alongside this, I’ll also be sharing creative looks from everyday people and designers, showing how fashion continues to evolve while staying rooted in culture.
Whether you’re curious about the origins of iconic Kenyan attire, looking for inspiration, or simply want to celebrate creativity, this space is for you. Let’s learn, share, and honor the vibrant world of Kenyan fashion—together.
We vision a vibrant Kenyan fashion community where creative minds can come together to share ideas, celebrate style, and inspire one another. We envision a future where Kenya stands proudly as a hub for fashion—rooted in tradition, fueled by innovation, and recognized globally. By building connections between designers, stylists, artists, and everyday fashion lovers, we aim to create a thriving sector that empowers talent, uplifts culture, and drives the rise of Kenyan fashion
We value creativity and freedom of expression, while staying true to authenticity and showing deep respect for Kenya’s rich culture.
The mind behind Wamuyu
Mambo Iko Huku
Frida Sine Wamuyu Sørensen
I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, to a Danish father and a Kenyan mother. From my mother’s Kikuyu heritage, I carry the middle name Wamuyu, which means “independent” in Kikuyu—a name that reflects both my cultural roots and the spirit that drives me to explore, celebrate, and share the beauty of Kenyan fashion with the world.
At the age of 15, I moved to Denmark to continue my high school education. Later, I earned an AP degree in Service, Hospitality, and Tourism Management from CPH Business Academy, where I specialized in trend management, event management, and business start-ups. I am now completing my Bachelor’s degree in International Trade and Management at Zealand, further strengthening my passion for social media marketing.
Alongside my studies, I have gained experience in sales and social media, creating content for both Instagram and TikTok.
